Max Lombardi is a father of 7-year-old triplets and a working family man who will fight for FAIRNESS FOR WORKING AND MIDDLE-CLASS FAMILIES in Cambridge. He has spent most of his life in Cambridge and works locally as an Information Technologist. He and his wife Josie have an adult daughter, Amy, and 7-year-old triplets: Lenny, Trinity and Niko.

Max is an active volunteer in his community with such diverse groups as: the Heart and Stroke Foundation; Cambridge Youth Soccer; Christ the King school council; and the Aurora Lodge Italian club. His job at NEBS Payroll Service involves supporting small businesses. Max believes the federal government needs to do more to assist small business and to spearhead BUY LOCAL initiatives.

Max understands the jobs crisis and that JOB LOSSES HURT FAMILIES. When his previous employer MTD Products in Kitchener announced massive layoffs in 2007, it was a direct blow to Max as well as to many friends and co-workers. Max says that for years in Canada, the deck has been stacked in favour of corporations who are too quick to relocate good jobs to cheaper labour markets. Finally, government must use their clout to tell corporations, "If you want to sell it here, you must build it here." Most of our competitors do it -- so must we.

And to move ahead of our competitors, we must invest in the Green-Collar Jobs of the Future. The NDP proposes an expanded national green building and retrofit program that includes specific programming for low-income households. This would serve the twin goals of strengthening our economy while protecting our natural environment for future generations. Max recognizes that clean air is not a political flavour of the month. CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL and pollution is creating an epidemic in respiratory illnesses. All of Max and Josie's triplets have suffered from respiratory illnesses.

It was a 9-hour wait with his daughter Trinity in the Emergency Room at Cambridge Memorial Hospital that hit home the fact that HOSPITAL WAIT TIMES IN CAMBRIDGE ARE UNACCEPTABLY HIGH. The NDP has a plan to shorten wait times. We would create more training spaces for doctors and nurses and invest in innovations — like modern home care. These ideas would both free up costly hospital beds and also shorten wait times.

Liberal and Conservative governments have promised and failed on these and other critical issues of our time. After 140 straight years of Liberal and Conservative promise-breaking governments, IT'S FINALLY TIME FOR A CHANGE. Ottawa is full of Liberal-Conservative corporate Yes-men, defending the interests of the powerful and the privileged. Cambridge does not need to send another one. Instead, send Max there to speak for hard-working families like yours.
